Surrounding Area.
The nearest large town is medieval Aurignac, about fifteen kilometres away. The 12th century castle tower overlooks the rolling wooded hills of the region, with views of the Pyrenees to the south. Restaurants, bars, supermarkets, banks, a cinema and a post office populate the town centre. A tourist office opens in the summer months. There’s also a museum displaying evidence of the prehistoric heritage of the area. If you want to mix with the locals, there is a recently refurbished public swimming pool with café. L'Isle-en-Dodon is another charming town not very far away. As well as a weekly market, you can enjoy the restaurants, shops and cafes that the town has to offer. Just down the road in St Andre, a village auberge sells a basic range of foodstuffs. The auberge, Restaurant Chez Fourcade, serves home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. Whilst being mainly a ‘locals’ restaurant, it is genuinely very friendly and also popular with the small ex-pat community. The nearest village of Fabas has a communal tennis court, newly built in 2006. The lake at the bottom of the hill behind the house is surrounded by a large forest; wildlife, including deer and wild boar, abound in the woods as well as an abundance of birdlife. There are a number of bikes available for hire at nominal rates, and horse riding can be arranged nearby. Click here for more information...
